Zeke
My name is Zeke, six years old and this is my story: My brother (Tippy) and I were surrendered to rescue in November by our owner that was terminally ill. We weren’t in much better shape and on the same path. You see we both had heartworms and our owner knew about it for three years and did not have us treated. We were covered in fleas and had lost most of our hair from trying to rid ourselves of the things. We had intestinal worms taking our nutrition from the little food we were given and our bones were showing. Even after all this I was in much better shape than Tippy. His eye had some how gotten put out and was infected. He needed surgery but would not be able to survive it due to his condition and the heartworms. The vets put him on medicine but he did not make it and was just to far gone. The rescue folks are determined that I will make it and yes I think I will. When I first got here I had pretty much given up on life and accepted my fate. I had no idea that my life could be better and at first wasn’t sure this could be real.
My hair has grown back, the parasites are gone and I get stronger every day. I have learned there are people who will love and care for me and it is ok to love them back. When folks come here to meet the collies and see which one picks them out, the children always gravitate to me. Did you know a child is their happiest when with a collie and visa versa? After they leave with their new family member the children will write back to see how I am doing. My day will come to be adopted and go home with my special family, they are out there somewhere.
Update: Went for my x-rays and bloodwork today which meant I had to skip breakfast. Everything is looking good and I will start treatment next week. I know there is a chance I may not make it however it is for sure the heartworms will kill me if not treated. To think all this started with one mosquito bite three years ago that a simple pill could have prevented. The way I understand it is as the heartworms die they pass over into my lungs to be filtered out through my body. If a large chuck of the dead worms breaks off and comes into my lungs it can block an air way and that will be it for me. It will be important that I stay calm
to keep my heart from beating fast causing large amounts of the dead heartworms to pass into my lungs. I’m going to need all your prayers and any get well treats would be appreciated, lol. Also if you would like to give toward my treatment just hit that donate button.
Starting my treatment 2/8/102/10/10 I’m home from my treatment and so far doing great with no problems. I will need another treatment in a month and then ready for my forever home. I would like to thank everyone for their donations to help with my care, the get well cards, prayers and mostly the treats.
2/21/10 As you can see by my picture I am doing well and grow stronger every day. In fact I feel so good I want to run and play. That isn’t allowed yet because I am a long way from being out of the woods as they say. I will have another treatment March 10th and still need your prayers. Check out the great toy squirrel John sent me and I love it.
2/27/10
Still doing great and today folks came to meet the collies. This is little two year old Gabe and he just kept giving me cookies. I took them very gently from his hand to eat and he would say “again”. So they would give him another cookie for me. What a sweet little fellow and all children love me. As you can see I am in my crate which is in the kitchen. When food is being prepared I get the really special treats and most times they live the door open. I just go in when I’m ready for a nap or need to be less active because of my treatment. Thanks everyone for your prayers and donations for my care.
3/9/10 Home from my final treatment and feeling fine. I will have to stay quiet for another three weeks and then I will be ready for my new home. I have learned a whole different way of life where collies are allowed in the house, receive lots of petting and are family members. I thank you for all your support, prayers and donations. Because you care I am going to make it!
Wylie

Hi there, my name is Wylie and I am a one year old smooth coat collie fellow. I am a very well mannered, loving fellow learning to keep all four feet on the ground. I’m a pretty smart guy and it will not take long as I have mastered sit and down very quickly. However I am still pretty much a puppy and would benefit from the company of an older dog for the dog things I need to lean and to play with me. I am crate trained and housetrained and a loving guy who wants to please.

3/14/10 Please me my new person, Teesa. We are both young, have lots of energy and plan to do many things together. I will be going to the dog park for play time and also to obedience class where I will lean many things. Thanks to all the folks who helped me on my way to my new life.
Vanna
Hello my name is Vanna, a ten year old tri colored collie senior and here is my story. I was found by some wonderful people as I walked down a busy road with my head to the ground. I don’t hear so well, didn’t notice those cars flying by as I had pretty much lost my will to live. I was skinny, matted to the skin and my coat had to be shaved. They got me all fixed up and brought me to the collie rescue. It was my lucky day they picked me up and now will receive the care I need. My teeth are in pretty bad shape and in need of a dental. However I also have heartworms which will have to be taken care of first. They will do bloodwork to make sure I am up to all this and sure would appreciate all your prayers. Also if you would like to help this senior lady with my treatment just hit the donate button. Please check back in to see me getting stronger and improving. Thank you for loving us older collies.
3/17/10 Going to the vet today for a check over and bloodwork. This will tell if my health wil be able to stand the heartworm treatment. Please wish me luck and say prayers.
Pearl
My name is Pearl and I truly am a gem. I even lick my lips lady style and no big laps for me. I am a seven year old small, umbel and gentle lady. I like the other dogs, children and the cats also. I am housetrained and pretty good with the crate but don’t need it. When my breeder was finished with me having babies to sell she gave me away to some nice people that called collie rescue to take me. Tomorrow I am going to have my teeth cleaned and spay.
2/27/10 Home from the vet and there will be no more babies for me. My teeth are clean and had two pulled. Miss Jean always speaks softly to me because I am so gentle. She laughs when I go potty because I will scratch out a place like a kitty.

Lucky
My name is Lucky, pronunciation: (lə-kē) meaning good fortune. However that name isn’t working out for me so good right now. My folks were elderly and could no longer care for me so I came to the collie rescue. They did however feed me well and I have been put on a diet, nothing lucky about that either. I’m a great guy, about seven years old, housetrained, crated trained although I don’t need it and have wonderful manners. I love everyone, children, the other dogs and even the cat. Not much of a barker and a good family companion.

Lance
Hello my name is Lance and I am in rescue because my person was losing her home. Seems to be a lot of that going on these days and she kept me until the very last minute. I know right now she has no where to go and made sure I would be safe with the collie rescue. I was very well cared for except for not being neutered and when money got tight my vaccinations got behind. That has all been corrected now and I am ready for my new home. I’m a real collie and the way they use to breed them, you know like that Lassie who was really a guy. I am a six year old guy at 75 pounds, love children, other dogs and cats are ok with me. I love to play fetch and be in the yard with my people. I am housetrained and crate trained although I don’t need it and would prefer a doggie bed. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Lance

Laddie
My name is Laddie and my folks dropped me off at the animal shelter on their way to the people shelter. You see we lost our home and the people shelter would not let me come with the family. They said I am nine years old and the rescue folks aren’t sure about that as I sure don’t look it and my teeth are good. I’m a quiet kind of guy and not much of a barker unless there is a reason, I realize I don’t look to happy in the picture and the yard is a swamp with all the snow melting. I’m not real big on getting dirty preferring to do my business and come back in. I am about 45 pounds with a shorter, manageable coat for easy grooming. I like adults, children, the other dogs and the cat also. I know must folks prefer to adopt the younger collies because they will be with them longer. However as your dog ages don’t you find yourself spending more time with them? Not putting off that pat to the head or the scratch on the butt because you know that may not be possible tomorrow. So you make the time with us seniors more special. Besides we are like puppies without all the bad habits, lol.

Krista

Pleased to meet you, my name is Krista and about two years old. I wondered up to some nice folks home and when they could not find my owner came into the rescue. As you can see I’m not full collie, my head is a bit wide and my nose is a bit short. The rescue folks think there may be some golden retriever in me. My evaluation is in progress and they already know I am a love bug.

3/8/10 WOO HOO!
The Staples came to meet the available dogs and picked me, Krista. I was so excited I couldn’t even look at Miss Jean for our picture. I love them already and ready to start my new life with these wonderful, loving people.

Jordan
Hi my name is Jordan, formally known as Mr. Studley. You see there was a mistake at the vet where to my understanding I was to be tutored. However I was neut ered instead and lost my manhood. There are all these beautiful ladies here and I can do nothing. Would someone please send VIAGRA! I am a five year old smooth collie fellow. Now if you have never seen a smoothie we are just like the roughs except we don’t get mats in our hair and a lot less maintenance. In my day I was a champion show collie and my breeder passed away so I am with the collie rescue. I am learning new things here like how to be a dog and there is more to life than being handsome. I have an outgoing personality and love everyone. I’m good on the leash, housetrained and did I say handsome?

3/10/10 Well now it seems I am off to boot camp and sure hope there isn’t a mess up like with that neutering thing. I don’t have much left to lose. I wll be learning how to be a dog and they have sheep for me to herd. This new life ain’t all that bad, lol.
Christian
Hello my name is Christian a about a two year old sheltie fellow. Now I know what you are saying “that’s a big sheltie” and yes I am tall for a sheltie. My weight is about thirty eight pounds and I could stand to gain a few more. As you can see I have two beautiful blue eyes just like that Paul Newman fellow the ladies loved. Some very nice people found me and took me in until I could come to the collie rescue. I’m a little shy and getting better every day. I am crate trained, housetrained and have learned to sit for a cookie of course.

Booker
Hello my name is Booker and a four year old sheltie. A bit of a shy fellow and it takes me a while to warm up to new people. I’m a home body, not caring much for rides in the car or going to strange places. A quiet home where I will have a schedule would be best for me. I like children but the rowdy ones make me nervous. I’m a loving little fellow once I get to know you, ok with other dogs and the cat. Housetraining is no problem for me and really love my crate because it is my safe place should I need it. If you have a big heart and want to help out a little fellow, I need you.

3/10/10 Hi Miss Jean…it’s me…Booker. I just wanted to let you know that I’m doing great with the Boyers. Today they left me here by myself while they were at work. And guess what??? I was a very good boy. I wasn’t in my crate cuz I like the couch better. But I did get brave and looked around a little bit while they were gone. I even ate the rest of my breakfast. Later I went for a really long walk and heard Beth bragging to some people about how good I am on the leash. The leash helps me feel safe so they are using it to guide me around until I learn things on my own. I have been brushed every day and they keep telling me I’m a good boy so I must be doing the right things. And sleeping on the bed at night??? Wow, what a treat. So, thanks for letting me come here. Booker
Ashley
3/13/10 Ashley here about two years old and just arrived this week. Very little is known about my past since I was picked up as a stray by the animal shelter. It doesn’t matter and everyone here in rescue starts off with a clean slate. My evaluation, training and new life will start today. Isn’t this cool and kind of like being on one of those Reality TV shows, huh? However I don’t know a lot about TV or being in the house and I am willing to learn. Please check back in to see my progress and more pictures.
